🧫 Why the Uterine Microbiome Matters More Than You Think (Especially if You’re Trying to Conceive)

ree

When we talk about fertility, we often focus on hormones, egg quality, or sperm parameters. But there’s one key factor that’s only recently been recognised in research and clinical practice — the uterine microbiome.

That’s right. Your uterus has its own bacterial environment — and it might be helping or hindering implantation and pregnancy success.

🧬 So, what is the uterine microbiome?

The uterine microbiome refers to the delicate ecosystem of bacteria (both good and bad) that live in the uterus. Unlike the vaginal microbiome (which we’ve known about for years), the uterine environment has historically been considered sterile. Spoiler: it’s not!

Recent studies show that a disrupted or “unfriendly” microbiome in the uterus could play a role in:

  • Repeated implantation failure

  • Recurrent miscarriage

  • Unexplained infertility

  • IVF failures despite good quality embryos

🔬 Why test it?

If you’re struggling to conceive — particularly after IVF or multiple losses — this test can give you crucial missing information.

A simple, at-home self-swab (done during menstruation) is sent off to a specialist lab and analysed for:

  • Harmful bacteria (like E. coli or Gardnerella)

  • Beneficial bacteria (like Lactobacillus species)

  • Harmful yeast (like Candida Albicans)

  • Signs of inflammation or dysbiosis

🧪 Who is this test for?

This is ideal for people who:

  • Have had multiple failed IVF cycles or miscarriages

  • Have a diagnosis of “unexplained infertility”

  • Want to prepare the uterus properly before embryo transfer or TTC naturally

  • Suspect underlying infection or inflammation

💰 Cost + What’s Included

For existing clients the price is £249.99 + £3.99 postage.

For new clients the price is £289.99 + £3.99 postage.

You’ll receive:

  • A full lab report with easy-to-understand analysis

  • Tailored interpretation and advice from me

  • A 1:1 support call with the lab (only provided when results indicate an imbalance that requires clinical interpretation).

  • Probiotic, antimicrobial or antibiotic protocol if needed (please note: these are not included in the test cost and will incur an additional charge if recommended. I am unable to prescribe antibiotics so in the event that this is the best option for you, you will be referred to your GP or fertility clinic)

  • Diagnostic consultation (new clients only)

💡 The Bottom Line?

The uterine lining is more than just a comfy bed for your embryo — it’s an intelligent, immune-active environment. And like any healthy environment, it relies on the right balance of bacteria.

If you’ve been doing everything right but still haven’t had success, this test might just provide the missing piece of your fertility puzzle.
