The secret to curing back pain
Back pain is an extremely common problem affecting around 1.1 million people in the UK, with 95% of people affected suffering from lower back pain. Did you know that back pain is the UK’s leading cause of disability? And it is one of the main reasons that people take sickness leave from work?
In most cases, lower back pain is not caused by any serious disease, but by muscle strains, minor injuries, sprains or irritated/trapped nerves. Other causes of lower back may include pregnancy, kidney infections, viral infections or by stress.
Research has shown that acupuncture is significantly better than no treatment and at least as good as (if not better than) standard medical care for back pain; especially for those with severe back pain who want to avoid analgesic drugs. Acupuncture for back pain in pregnancy may also be beneficial.
Acupuncture can help with back pain in the following ways:
Pain relief- Acupuncture helps in stimulating the nerves situated in the muscles and surrounding tissues. It also helps in the release of endorphins and other neurohumoral factors which changes the way the brain processes pain.
Reduces inflammation- by promoting the release of vascular and immunomodulatory factors
Improves muscle stiffness and joint mobility by increasing local microcirculation.
Decreases the use of pain medication for back pain.
Provides a more cost effective method of treatment over a long period of time.
As mentioned in previous posts; when coming to me for treatment, I will not only focus on the pain you have come with, but also on the underlying cause of the issue. By discovering and treating the root cause of the issue it the more likely that treatment will be successful and will prevent the issue from arising again in the future.
I personally have had success with treating clients with back pain after they have tried all other methods of conventional treatment. To get somebody out of pain and back to living the life that they want is such a rewarding feeling; and I hope to help many more people in the future.
